Munich is the capital of Bavaria, Germany, as everybody knows, but what less people know is that it is the birth place of “River Surfing”! Munich is a surfing Mecca!
In the seventies a group of friends played on a static wave with ordianry wooden boards attached with a rope in Flosslande and discovered that they could stay on the wave without the rope. River Surfing was born.
Now the “pro” surf spot moved to the Eisbach (“Ice Creek”) river where a bigger static wave forms permanently, a minute from the Haus der Kunst at the beginning of the English garden (Englischer Garten) in the center of Munich.
Some say that the surfing community in Munich counts from 300 to 400 persons.
